I must confess, that I cannot make it through watching a ballet performance without crying. I have tried, and invariably, I well up with emotion. Maybe it's because I know how much physical effort and strength and work goes in to presenting something that looks effortless. Ballet dancers are these amazing athletes, but they also possess a grace that is other worldly.
Atticus studies ballet and is performing 4 shows of The Nutcracker this weekend. These kids are amazing, truly amazing.
One of my favorite pieces from The Nutcracker is the Grand Pas de Deux. The music is so moving and the dance, which looks so light, is extremely difficult. I love this clip of Rudolph Nureyev and Merle Park....
It began looking a lot like Christmas here at the Boyle house, oh the day after Thanksgiving. I am a sucker for all things holiday.
Over the years I have amassed these tiny Christmas treasures. Some are vintage, but many of them were purchased at Jonathan Wright and Company, which is here in L.A. It's one of my favorite shops. They do beautiful letterpress and custom work, and always have the best cards and holiday decorations. The shop is also where I stock up on vintage dead-stock seam binding, in the best colors ever, that I use for ribbon. So best.
