You will always be Joe/Josephine/Junior to me.....

As you probably know, Tony Curtis passed away. Of all his films, Some Like It Hot, is my favorite. I have seen it probably 50 times, and it never disappoints.

I had one encounter with Mr. Curtis, back in the 90s. I was in Las Vegas with my dad, engaging in some underage gambling (Shhhh) and we were at the same blackjack table. He was very friendly and funny.

However, I only picture him as Joe/Josephine/Junior. If you are a mutant who has never seen Some Like it Hot, you should probably correct that. Now.

This here's Miss Bonnie Parker. I'm Clyde Barrow. We rob banks.

Arthur Penn has died. He directed one of my favorite films, Bonnie and Clyde. If you have never seen it, I suggest you do so immediately. It was groundbreaking for its style and the way in which it presented violence on the screen.

And then there's Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty at their finest, and oh the clothes. Yeah, you might wanna Netflix this right now.

Thank you Mr. Penn.

Bubble Up

I came across one of Melvin Sokolsky's famous "Bubble" photos this morning. I love them. They were shot for Harper's Bazaar in 1963.

Current fashion photography is rarely exciting to me. These are fun. They are whimsical and pretty and likable.

He also did a "flying" series.

Maybe I'm living in the wrong era.

Dear Mother Nature.....

WTF!!!

It was 113 degrees in downtown L.A. yesterday. Hottest day ever on record in Los Angeles. My car said it was even hotter...

I know the drill. Indian Summer is nothing new, but this is overkill, no? I'm gonna go do a rain dance.

Happy Birthday Weezy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My man, and everyone else's, turns 28 today. I hope you get some cake today, Mr. Carter.

(photo by RJ, whose birthday was yesterday.)

In other Weezy news, it's rumored that his job at Riker's is to keep watch on suicidal prisoners. Is this for real?

Weezy will be free in 37.5 days.

Finally!

Lastly, Wayne's I Am Not a Human Being album is unleashed today, online at least. (real world release is October 12th)

I don't believe in the Sun either.

Oh, The Magnetic Fields. I can't believe 69 Love Songs came out 11 years ago. Good grief.

Fall Fail

Well, it is officially the first day of Fall. I am in L.A. and we are about to have a major heat wave. After a summer that maintained below average temps, Indian summer has been dumped in our proverbial laps.

Oh well. I had a roaring fire in the fireplace last night anyways. Fall, please come quick.

Dear Father Time,

Please, please, please, find a way for me to gain four extra usable hours a day.

Or, forward me to Mr. Sandman, and let him figure out a way for me to function on two hours of sleep per day, without the use of illegal narcotics.

Thanks Pops.

(In the interest of wasting time on a side note......WTF Rankin-Bass? Why does Father Time, narrator of the holiday special Rudolph's Shiny New Year, have a scythe? Is Father Time moonlighting as the Grim Reaper. I guess that would make sense?)

It's really best to practice and refine your shuffling skills in all areas of life, n'est ce pas?
