"People will see me and cry......"

So, almost two weeks ago, I took a little road trip to Phoenix, Arizona for a wedding. En route, I got to sit in the back seat of my car for a change and enjoy the dvd entertainment.

On tap? Season One of Fame. I seriously love that show as much as I did when I was a kid. I mostly remember it from its syndicated days. I watched those re-runs many many times.

It's pretty much perfection.

There's early 80s New York City.

There's the big issues- teen prostitution, drugs, muggings, Harlem in 1982.(One of the best episodes, Street Kid, features Dominique Dunne)

There's Debbie Allen and her fabulous choreography. (P.S. I want to dress like her all the time.)

There's Doris Schwartz who is endlessly running somewhere in some wacky outfit.

There's Ms. Sherwood and her perfect hair.

There's Shorofsky....who is just awesome.

And then there's Leroy, and Leroy's ass.....so phenomenal, seriously. (Sadly, Gene Anthony Ray died in 2003.)

The only things I could do without are Coco, because she bugs,

and the long synthesized musical stylings of Martelli.

As I am getting close to being done watching Season One, I promptly logged on to Amazon to add the other seasons to my wishlist. And guess what? Only Seasons One and Two are available?!?

I really need to own the other seasons. Come on MGM, get it together.

A little something for my yard?

I would love to see this out my kitchen window every day.....

(Who doesn't love clothes pins?)

I lied.

I did not resume normal blogging last Friday....but now I am back!

Many posts to come, but can we talk for a minute about Weeds? Did you watch this season? I have been sort of lukewarm about the past couple seasons, but I finally caught up with the Season 6 Finale this morning and.....Wow.

I thought it was quite a finale. If you watch the show, let me know what y'all thought....

Just lay down, close your eyes, and feel something

Samuel Barber's Adagio For Strings, is one of the most moving pieces of music ever written. I am sure you have heard it somewhere before, as it has been used in many films and shows.

Try this. Lay down, close your eyes, and let this play. I dare you not to feel something. Trust me.

(This version was the world premiere of the piece in 1938.)

Ya know tramps like us, we were born to pay.

I would like to thank the part of my brain in charge of music placement in my dreams. Last night, Lou Reed provided my soundtrack. Love that brain of mine.

Does that happen to you? Do your dreams have soundtracks? Tell me.

(I love the Bruce Springsteen cameo, ya know from his darker days.)

And on repeat today....

I can listen to Liquid Swords, always and forever......

If you love hip-hop and are not familiar with this album, then you don't really love hip-hop. Sozzy!

Complaint Department

As a very busy person, who barely even has time to blog these days, I was happy to see that I could renew my drivers license online. So, I did, on October 6th. It is now November 16th. Do I have my new license? No. I do not.

So, seeing as my birthday is coming up this Saturday, and seeing as how I have yet to receive said license, I called the DMV. The kind woman on the other end confessed that they have been having severe problems in getting the licenses sent out. Some people who renewed as early as August have still not received their licenses.

Then she advised me to go to my local DMV and get a temporary license. Have you been to a DMV lately? Do you understand the time suck that would occur?!!

So, I proceeded to try and make an appointment. Earliest appointment is December 7th! If I had known this would happen, I could have made an appointment 6 weeks ago! BLERG

I mean, really.

Thanks, I needed to vent.

Veterans Day makes me think of

Dogfight. Have you ever seen it? It's actually quite a delightful film, starring Lili Taylor and the late River Phoenix. It's really so good.

The bulk of the film takes place the night before a young marine leaves for Vietnam. The "dogfight" is a game the marines play, where they all bring an "ugly" girl to a party (unbeknownst to her) and the winner of the ugliest date wins a cash prize.

In addition to being a well-acted, well-written film, it boasts a stellar soundtrack- including my favorite Bob Dylan song ever....

Bob Dylan - Don't think twice,it's alright

Such a good song. And. such a good movie. Get on that, why don't you?!

Other gems from the soundtrack....

The best Joan Baez song....

I could go on and on. Just watch it.

Falling Backwards

Whenever I listen to this, I experience deja-vu and instantly get the chills. Past/Last life? Last night, it served as the soundtrack to a dream.....the 11 minute version.
