Time, she's a fast old train....

Willy Mason and Isobel Campbell covering one of my fave Townes Van Zandt songs....

And, the original....

It's hard to believe, sometimes.

I am in the midst of baking and ignoring the pile of presents that I have yet to wrap.

As you may know, my offspring, Atticus, was in The Nutcracker earlier this month.

Everything, from rehearsals to backstage antics to the performances, was filmed for an upcoming DVD. The guys put together this awesome little preview.....

Merry Christmas everyone!!  xoxo

Your hair will thank me.

Seriously, just trust me.

I have been known to get excited about hair care products in the past, and I am excited once again.

Moroccan Oil, people. That's where it's at. It's cramazing. It leaves your hair so soft and shiny and light. It also makes drying long hair a much faster endeavor.

Try it. (If you are blonde, and consequently having way more fun, then try the light version, as the regular one can stain your hair.)

You're welcome.

Well, Merry Christmas to me!

Last Saturday, Christmas came early in my the form of EMINEM AND LIL WAYNE ON SNL!!!

Did you watch? It was pretty epic. NBC has disabled most of the videos for their performance of "No Love,"

(the original video)

but here's Eminem performing "Won't Back Down"......

and here's Weezy performing "6 Foot 7 Foot"....

Rapfix at MTV had some pretty good suggestions for continuing this successful alliance.

I want to go to there.

It's no secret that I love Christmas. It is also no secret that I may enjoy a musical or two. White Christmas satisfies both of those itches for me.

It's visually lovely. It was the first film shot in VistaVision. The costumes are great, the songs are great, and I have a soft spot for Bing Crosby, even though he allegedly hit his kids. The film also features, the equally groovy, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye, and Vera-Ellen.

Watch it, why don't you. Get a cup of egg nog, heavy on the nog, light a fire (Or make a fake one out of construction paper.) and enjoy.

A little dancing....

And of course, one of the best Christmas songs, EVER....

Germ Factory

I have been super sick the past few days. So sick, I have hardly left my bed for the past 48 hours. Thanks to the wonder of modern medicine, in the form of antibiotics, I am feeling slightly better.

At first, I laid here, without the strength to go watch television, let alone go online. But, now I am amusing myself with things like this short doc about skaters in Shanghai.

Shanghai 5 from Charles Lanceplaine on Vimeo.

Will post more intelligible things tomorrow when I am less like a zombie. xo

Sometimes, I am moved to tears...

I must confess, that I cannot make it through watching a ballet performance without crying. I have tried, and invariably, I well up with emotion. Maybe it's because I know how much physical effort and strength and work goes in to presenting something that looks effortless. Ballet dancers are these amazing athletes, but they also possess a grace that is other worldly.

Atticus studies ballet and is performing 4 shows of The Nutcracker this weekend. These kids are amazing, truly amazing.

One of my favorite pieces from The Nutcracker is the Grand Pas de Deux. The music is so moving and the dance, which looks so light, is extremely difficult. I love this clip of Rudolph Nureyev and Merle Park....

Holly Jolly

It began looking a lot like Christmas here at the Boyle house, oh the day after Thanksgiving. I am a sucker for all things holiday.

Over the years I have amassed these tiny Christmas treasures. Some are vintage, but many of them were purchased at Jonathan Wright and Company, which is here in L.A. It's one of my favorite shops. They do beautiful letterpress and custom work, and always have the best cards and holiday decorations. The shop is also where I stock up  on vintage dead-stock seam binding, in the best colors ever, that I use for ribbon. So best.
