Memory and Oblivion

"Sometimes we have to avoid thinking about the problems life presents. Otherwise, we'd suffocate."

Alain Resnais died yesterday. He was 91.

When I was 16,  in my first month of film school, I saw Hiroshima Mon Amour. And, it had a profound affect on me. It's one of those films that got under my skin.

Resnais made films that provoked difficult thinking.

The following are sort of mandatory: Hiroshima Mon AmourLast Year at Marienbad, and of course, Night and Fog.

Merci, Monsieur Resnais.
